Dr. Alan Grant, in Jurassic Park: “The world is changing so fast, and we’re all running to catch up. I don’t want to jump to any conclusions, but look. Dinosaurs and man… two species separated by 65 million years of evolution, have suddenly been thrown into the mix together. How can we possibly have the slightest idea of what to expect?”
One of the best things about the end of December (apart from Christmas, of course) is the arrival of the new Playmobil catalogue showing all the new items to be introduced over the coming year.
Sure enough, our new copy came in the mail last week, and we tore open the envelope to find —
This new theme will launch some time in January (we don’t have an actual ship date yet), and will include seven sets, ranging in price from about CDN$10.49 to CDN$45.99 (the T-Rex set shown, #4171, will sell for CDN$25.99).
The whole theme has a kind of Jurassic Park vibe to it: lots of cross-looking dinosaurs, both in and out of enclosures, jungle-y vegetation, and Playmobil people wearing pith helmets. One of the larger sets, #4170, includes an “exploding volcano”, activated by pushing a button hidden on the mountainside.
#4176, the Explorer-Quad, is a new addition to the very popular four-wheelers with pull-back motors (#4425, #4427, and #3655). At CDN$10.50, this is a marvelous little birthday present or “just because” gift.
All in all, these are dandy additions to Playmobil’s wonderfully imaginative and sturdy line of toys. Dinosaurs and children together — what do we expect, Dr. Grant? We expect fun!
