Here in Canada, mosquitoes are a summertime nuisance, but in other, warmer, parts of the world, they are a significant vector of deadly disease. Malaria is the single-biggest killer of children under the age of 5 in Africa, killing some 3,000 children each and every day.
Spread the Net is a charitable organization dedicated to providing bed nets to sub-Saharan Africans. The simple bed net, which is treated with insecticide, provides a physical and chemical barrier to disease-carrying mosquitoes. One net can protect a child for up to five years, at a cost of CDN$10.00.
