Captain America, that iconic superhero, is celebrating his 70th anniversary in 2011.
The comic was launched with a cover date of March 1941, almost a full year before the attack on Pearl Harbor that formally and irrevocably drew the United States into the Second World War. The creative geniuses behind Captain America, writer Joe Simon and artist Jack Kirby, were apparently frustrated by the politically isolationist stance that predominated in the United States at that time; Simon has said since that he and Kirby were disgusted by the actions of Nazi Germany, and that they wanted to use Captain America as a platform for their firmly-held view that the United States had a moral obligation to join the Allies in the fight against the Axis.
Heroclix® has just introduced the Captain America characters in standard blind-boxed five-figure boosters. Some 60 characters are available, including both Captain America’s allies and enemies — the Secret Warriors, the Great Lakes Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D. Hydra, and more — and some figures will feature removable elements, a first for Heroclix®. Five-figure boosters are CAD$14.99.
Ten of the sixty figures are also available singly (although blind boxed) at CAD$3.99.
